I wouldn't say I'm a die-hard fan of dubstep, but it's a track like this that make the occasional one I listen to completely worth it. Giancarlo Pasquesi aka LoBounce has created such a track by giving Civil Twilight's "Letters From the Sky" a heavy bass feel but retains remnants of the original piano and chill vibe. I've never heard the Cape Town band Civil Twilight but the sensual and pleasing vocals of lead singer Steven McKellar mixes perfectly with the filth infused bass provided by LoBounce. LoBounce doesn't overload the track with an unnecessary amount of bass; instead maintaining the overall elegance while giving us a track perfect for any occasion.

Trip-hop-esque vocals meet the dubstep monsters from mars in Love Our Records’ latest release, an original mix titled “Hangover” from producer Human Machine.
Assuming you partied to heartily yesterday afternoon/evening (it’s okay, Super Bowl’s only happen once every year..) and your head is feeling a little, um.. “blah” this track should help put you back in working mode, but without too much pressure.
A relatively slow beat and pitch perfect vocals go head to head with heavy bass and a variety of electronic sounds in this latest offering. Unique doesn’t even do the track justice, because as far as we know, nobody is putting out tracks even close to this.
Sure, it’s a little out there, but definitely worth checking out!
In the past few years, our ears have been blessed with modern day remixes of obscure house classics. A couple weeks ago, I ran into another remix to add to this list. Admittedly, I sat on this track and refrained from posting it because I couldn't for the life of me find a release date. Even after sending off my pre-order money into PayPal purgatory, I was left with a simple email saying "We will notify you when your record will be available for dispatch". Finally having a chance to sit down at my computer, I have for you today the Altered Natives remix of "Mary Mary" by Grand High Priest featuring Dajae.
Coming off of the release Mary Mary (Remixes) from the label MoreAboutMusic, the Altered Natives vocal remix stays true to the feeling of the original track, but with a modern and grainy house approach that is a staple of all Altered Natives productions. This remix appears as the a side to the three track vinyl release, standing tall against solid remixes by Bok Bok and Yannah Valdevit. While the SoundCloud page says vinyl will be available February with digital out in March, no exact release dates for Mary Mary (Remixes) have been determined. Pre-order for vinyl can be placed on Piccadilly Records.
Free Music Monday this week is all about the scouse house sounds of Liverpudlian producer Melé who’s given us his exclusive remix of Disclosure's new single ‘Tenderly’, which is out today!
Looking forward to seeing Melé do what he does best behind the decks this Saturday at KO.
Disclosure release their new double A-side single ‘Tenderly’ / ‘Flow’ on February 6th via Make Mine (7” + Digital).
The second single release from Jono McNeil’s self-titled EP unveils a ballad, pulsing with the Soundmasters trademark evocative production. Never Leave You is an epic narrative of love in amongst hardship, hitting to the heart of perseverance and reconciliation in a celebration of R&B at its best. Jono’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of the fragility of our humanity against the backdrop of two lovers. The climax of the song declaring; “let faded love be renewed” – an anthem for the generation.

Fresh off the latest nerve-wracking Super Bowl, OK Go teams up with Chevrolet to bring us "Needing/Getting". OK Go rose to fame with their intensely elaborate videos in which random everyday objects are arranged in an order that creates something special. And being the Super Bowl, OK Go went above and beyond using the new Chevy Sonic (formerly the Aveo) in a desert driving course to bang and play various instruments and objects found throughout the drive. Honestly, the song itself wasn't the quality track that I'm used to hearing from OK Go but the fact that they were driving and creating the sound through the use of the car shows us just how truly artistic these guys are. Take a look at the video, and sound off in the comment section below to let me know what you think.

Tokyo-based musician Yasuo Akai lists his piece of music “Be It So” as “w. Chris Lynn,” the latter phrase appearing in a parenthetical after the track’s title. The combination of the letter w and a single period is shorthand for “with” and generally is intended to suggest a collaboration that comes up short of a duet, a piece of music in which one of the two participants is clearly the lead, and the other plays a supporting role. In the case of “Be It So,” the roles are just so. Lynn’s part in it was to provide source material, the “impros/field recordings” from which Akai than constructed his piece. Akai’s work makes the original sounds largely unrecognizable as field recordings, not that we know, for sure, what they sounded like originally. He also moves quickly from a form that suggests a song-like approach to one that embraces a more gestural mode. The song-like sensibility arrives early on, when, 10 seconds in, the initial tones are heard to repeat, suggesting a theme, and while those sounds are heard a subsequent time, it is not in a manner that could be considered a chorus or a verse. Instead there is a sequence of gentle phrases that are at times shot through by a building noise, a welt that sounds like a speaker cone has gone moldy with neglect. Rather than disrupt the softer tones, the rougher passages makes them appear all the more soft by setting them in clear contrast.
