It’s been over a decade since a young producer by the name of 9th Wonder cobbled together a great little remix LP for Nas’ God’s Son LP.
Now, after a slew of releases, remixes, and even a Grammy to his name, 9th is back with a new free remix album. Huzzah!
This time he’s taking a stab at Jay-Z’s American Gangster, taking Jigga’s rhymes and rebuilding the beats from scratch for most cuts (no ‘Roc Boys’ though… shame).
To be honest, after a quick listen – and I do mean quick – Black American Gangster sounds a little more rough and ready than 9th’s past remix efforts.
But there’s at least a handful of good cuts on here that make BAG worth a spin. And hey, if you’ve read this far, I’m guessing time is probably something you have a bit of, no? Go on. Give it a whirl.
